Practice Wednesday, July 18

Attendees : Rishabh, Tilak, Paul, Subbu, Giri, Sri, Bharat, Prateek.

Catching and fielding sessions were shorter than usual, due to injuries and late arrivals.

Tilak looked safe and Paul looked good in the deep.

There isnt much to say about bowling due to the nature of the pitch. It is good to see Giri back as he is able to hit line and length. Tilak produced a couple of good deliveries and Sri looked like he has been practicing and pitched it right more than a few times.

Batting :
Prateek had a good outing, after judging the pitch, I was able to gt on top of most deliveries and play them where I wanted to. I was seeing the ball well and it should play out well for the IU game.

Tilak also had a good aggressive session. The only negative is that this is not how he would be playing in the game. I think Tilak has better temperament than trying to air every stroke. My advice will be to practice the way you will bat in the game.

Rishabh looked pretty shaky when it came to coming in terms with the pitch. He could not handle the slowness of the track very effectively. Rish, get used to these type of pitches, there are plenty of these down here.

Paul was very edgy to begin with but got better when he got his eye in. He looks a shadow of a batsman, with some knicks in his technique that need to be ironed out. I think a couple more practice sessions will do him a lot of good.

Subbu looked pretty good with his drives. He was able to take care of anything that was pitched up. The pitch did not provide an opportunity to test him with the shorter stuff, but there was some visible discomfort when the ball was pitched on length.

Sri tried to be too aggressive with his strokes. It looks like Sri either wants to smudge the ball right under him or go for a boundary. I think we should try to help him develop the mid range strokes so that he can rotate the strike to the other batsman without creating chances.

Giri looked good on his return. He seems to be getting back at a good pace. He was caught jumping back on a few length deliveries, but looked good when he came forward.

Special thanks for Bharat bhai and Giri for showing up and helping the team out at practice.

Thanks also to Tilak for arranging the permit and obtaining it. It was very impressive, the speed and efficiency with which he did this job. There was some problem with the soccer players which disrupted us for a short while, but they eventually moved on to the other side of the ground and there was no further trouble.

All in all a decent session, not the best we have had, but alright, good to see Paul make it to this one. I would like to see us work a little more on our ground fielding in the next session.

Miramar Game (Captains' Summary)

Well they turned up and wanted to play...hahaha. Goes to show you.
Maybe they thought they had a chance up until Tanmay dislodged one of the in the first over and Sahel another in the second over.

Yes...they were as bad as advertised and we bowled them out for 100 even with some sloppy out of focus fielding and made 70 odd in reply before th sirens sounded and we won by run rate having not lost a single wicket.

BOWLING

Tanmay looked a yard short of pace but still managed some sweet deliveries. I would expect him to be full strength for IU after applying the blue gel twice a day at least this week. Also, a flat throw he made that effected a run out was remarkable.

Sahel's overs were brilliant.

Subbu and Raj both looked well oiled and ready for any challenge.

Chetan looked rather ordinary except for when he flighted it but he showed some potential.

Prateek bowled some beauties and may have looked altogether brilliant if not for the occasional really bad ball and a sloppy display from Chucky behind the stumps with at least three missed off Prateek's bowling alone...I guess there is no love between keepers.

Chucky was totally off line with his bowling and continued a bad outing for the off-spinners on the day and sadly they ran out ow wickets before Rishab had a chance to salvage any respect for the off-spin trade in the team.

Tilak looked mediocre also...although he did claim three scalps and bowled more than a couple really good deliveries.

Paul got all of one delivery in and the dan batsman decided to run a suicide single and that was that.

BATTING

Prateek looked really really solid...he will be a great opener for us as he gains more experience.

Chucky seemed to regain some form and we'll find out for sure in upcoming matches just how much.

Paul & Chetan looked rusty and their partnership lacked energy the energy you would expect from those players.

Anu and Tanmay were about to come out to wrap up procedings in style just as the sirens sounded.

OFF THE FIELD

Anu and I had a nice chat moderated by Raj before the game. We'll see this week if we achieved anything in those talks.

The team talk after the game was fabulous. We spoke indetail about our team and IU and reached some good decisions.

Tilak's offer to relinquish his spot to Anu was heartfelt sicne I know how much Tilak wants to be a part of beating IU. He should know that this gesture of this is already the kind of thing that will help us beat them. We are a team...all 14 of us.

Rakesh...thanks for scoring, fielding and being around in general. I look forward to seeing how you play in practices and the off-season. In the meantime, please try to hang around with us through the rest of the season and we'll all get to know you and vice versa.

SUMMARY

Another easy win...now comes the BIG games. Remember to not try too hard and instead focus on your basics and fundamental cricket...it's what's gotten us together as a team and helped us get this far.

Practice : Wednesday July 11

Practice : Wednesday July 11.

We got to city park and realized that we definitely need the permit to play there. We told the guys practicing there that we have a permit and worked out a solution. We planned practice on the center pitch while they used the side pitch.

Attendees : Chetan, Jay, Rishabh, Tilak, Tanmay, Sahel and Prateek

Fielding :
The guys generally looked comfortable with catching. We did short, mid range , long and slip catches. Slip catches were disappointing.
Tilak needs some work on the slip catches. He has been away for a bit and needs to refocus his reflexes.
I beleive we have resolved Chetan's catching problem. He was not looking the ball into his hands. As soon as he started doing that, he became a lot more consistent.
Jay looked atheletic and has the ability to pull off some good catches, consistency still needs to be worked on. He also looked rather comfortable behind the stumps. He needs work in that area, but it was a good start from him.
Prateek dropped acouple very easy long ones, but was consistent otherwise.

Bowling :
Rishabh was rather inconsistent, but still produced some good deliveries to beat Tanmay and Chetan.
Sahel was getting the ball to move well, he seems to be improving consistently.
Tanmay ran in from a short run up and bowled slower, but was able to get a good amount of movement in the air.
Chetan was a little more consistent than earlier, but stiull not up to his potential.
Tilak did not bowl.
Prateek had the same problem as earlier, messing up when trying to do anything but the ordinary. The flight looks good though.

Batting
Tanmay was trying to get under the ball and thus getting beaten repeatedly. Once he tried to come down on the ball he got much better. There is scope and talent for improvement with the bat.
Tilak was playing backfoot strokes well, but his front foot strokes were not coming off. We talked about it and realised that he is playing the ball a little too late to be forcing it off the frontfoot. He tried playing it earlier and it looked much better.
Chetan was batting well, except that he was not using his feet. He was not coming forward to the deliveries he should, and playing a stand and deliver game. He realizes it and will be working on that.
Prateek had a decent day. The ball was finding the middle of the bat most of the time and running away pretty quickly. I did air a few as the pitch was pretty slow, but thats how some pitches are, so I need to work on that.

All in all, pretty exhaustive session. Everyone, except Sahel and Tanmay who came late, was pretty tired by the end. Also, we definitely need to get our hands on that permit.

Practice : Tuesday July 10

Here we go. This is before the Miramar Masters game, with the team already looking at a playoff berth. The potential forfiet would secure a playoff spot and a victory against India United will give us the confidence to be a serious contender during the playoffs.

Practice : Tuesday July 10

Attendees : Chetan, Rishabh, Rakesh, Tanmay and Prateek

Fielding :
Most people looked pretty good with catches.
Chetan has some problem with the easier catches, does not look like a technical issue, might just be a concentration issue.
Rakesh is coming back to cricket after a long time, but looks good.
Slip catching practice with one person chucking the ball and a batsman letting it slide off of the face of the bat works great. It simulates the slip catches very effectively.
Rishabh is shaping up very well as a slip fielder, needs more practice though.

Bowling :
Chetan was getting some great drift going on his offspin. He needs to work on his line a little but he can be a genuione wicket taking option.
Rishabh was consistent as usual.
Prateek needs to remember that trying to do something special fucks up his bowling. As long as I am bowling within myself, the flight and loop looks great.

Batting :
Tanmay was trying a little too hard to be technically correct and that seemed to be messinng up his judgment of flight. He needs to play spinners a lot more to get used to this.

Rakesh looks pretty good coming in after a lay over. He was edgy but playing with straight bat.

We had to cutoff the practice as the lights were turned off soon after Tanmay and Rakesh were done batting.
